Episode 10 Silas' Proposal

 The next day--.

"So, what did you end up doing?"

Kuro was drinking her coffee again and urged me to continue.

I had wanted to tell her about the griffin yesterday, but for some reason, Kuro hadn't been home and didn't come back until early this morning.

I'll tell her what happened yesterday.

"So, I killed the griffin with magic, and that was that."

"Hmmm... I'm not sure what to make of it, but I'm sure it's a good idea. In some cases, I would have disposed of him to pieces without leaving a single piece of meat."

She smiles, but the light behind Kuro's eyes quickly disappears.

 This is the real deal.

I'm really glad that it ended in an attempt.

"Well, I agree with you on that. I'm a child now, and it's inhumane to have my own men attack me and use me as bait to lure vampires, even in wartime. ...Silas is a man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants."

"Kukuku, I'm a little skeptical on that point. If I were you, I wouldn't call it a decoy, I'd just kill it first and stick it all over town, so it would definitely come out, even if it didn't want to."

Kuro speaks in a tone that makes it hard to tell whether she is joking or serious.

Oi, oi,...Please, only do this when you are sure of the evidence...

But I know what it is.

Kuro doesn't do that. Or rather, she doesn't have to.

In front of her, all lives are equally fragile. There's no need to play tricks.

It's just that Silas is so thorough.... I don't think he'd be willing to go through with such a questionable mission, given his personality. Does he have a grudge against vampires?

"Well, as it turns out, Silas and the other magicians came up empty. The magicians who was supposed to be behind you turned out to be your own ability in the first place, and there's no need for him to snoop around you anymore."

"I hope so...I don't know what I'll do if he says he's going to check me out thoroughly this time. You yourself are connected to the vampire situation in the first place! That's the kind of thing that could get you into trouble."

"Fufufu, It's actually true. Well, if it happens, it happens. It's a shame we have to leave this place, but we can just leave it and go somewhere else... That's what I would normally say."

Kuro sighs with a subtle expression.

 It's a rare sight.

"...What's going on?"

"Well, we had our first meeting in a while yesterday."

"Of vampires?"

 Kuro nodded.

"It's a sort of irregular information exchange, but yesterday's discussion resulted in a ban on bloodshed for the time being."

"Ban on bloodshed...? All vampires? Wait a minute, I thought vampires didn't have a hierarchy? Who can enforce such a thing?"

"It's just democracy. The vampire world has changed in the last thousand years. I'm sure you'll be happy to know that I'm not the only one who's trying to do something about it."

Kuro shrugged her shoulders.

"We've been doing our own thing, but I think it's time we formed a community. Vampires are not monolithic. The more people there are, the more disputes there will be."

"Hmmm...So you can't be active for a while?"

"Only for a little while, really. And self-defense is not limited to that. There are so many ways to do it."

"With more than two guys like Kuro, there's bound to be disagreements."

Knock-Knock――.

「!」

Suddenly, there's a knock on the door.

 This feeling... Silas?

"It looks like he's come to visit. Now, what can I do for you?"

"About yesterday...please don't do anything unnecessary."

I slowly approached the door and gently opened it.

Silas was standing in the doorway with a sales smile on his face.

"Hi... Do you mind if I come in?"

"Even if I say no, you're still coming in...Go ahead."

"Haha, excuse me."

Silas slowly walked into the room without seeming to be offended.

Apparently, Yuffie is not with him today.

"I think you are..."

"Claudia. Gill's--well, sort of a parent figure."

"I see. I'm sorry about yesterday, I put your son in harm's way."

"No, no. That's just an everyday thing for him, don't worry about it."

"That's very kind of you to say."

 Silas bowed his head apologetically.

"So, what do you want today? You didn't come here to apologize, did you?"

"Oh, that's right. ---This is for you."

Silas reaches inside his robe to take something out.

Kuro reacts instantly to the movement and gets into a fighting stance.

--Appearance of the transformation...!

The eyes glow red and the hands turn into sharp shapes to kill people efficiently.

Oi, oi, oi, Don't do that.! No bloodshed!

 You're breaking the law!

 I hurriedly looked at Kuro.

It's not a problem! Just calm down!

"The one that came today had ----. This is the one."

In his hand, which he had pulled out of his robe, he held a sheet of rolled-up paper.

"...what's this?"

"I was hoping you could come. Well, you're not old enough yet, so it'll be a few years before you can...."

The paper was a pamphlet from the Rondor School of Magic.

Rondor... I've never heard that name before.

No, wait. There is a small trading city north of here with that name...

"This is...?"

"It's called the Rondor School of Magic, and it's one of the best schools of magic in the kingdom. I figured you'd have no trouble passing the entrance exam. Above all..."

Silas's eyes light up.

You should definitely take it. And after a career of graduating from a magic school. Become a magician who contributes to the world. You have the talent to do it!"

"Ha!‥‥‥Huh! Me, in school! What a joke! After all this time――."

"After all this time? Have you ever been there before?"

Oh no...

"No, let's see. I mean, I'm ten years old and I'm pretty good at magic, right? I don't see the point in going..."

"That's not true. In Rondor, there are many apprentice magicians from famous families. It will be a great source of inspiration for you to learn together with those of your generation. Besides, it's important for a magician to have connections with other magicians. It doesn't hurt to make some connections."

Mmm...It's not a loss, but...

"Your magic the other day...It was truly amazing. I've never seen magic work so smoothly in my life. I don't know if I could have done it with that level of skill..."

No, you're exaggerating.

"Haha, maybe so. But it definitely has no rival in its generation. That's how brilliant you are. You've never compared yourself to others, so you wouldn't understand. You're a genius if you can get that far on your own and with the books, you have lying around the house. I wonder what kind of sorcerer you would make if you studied in a well-equipped school... I'm very curious about that."

"Well, I certainly like magic. I can't afford to pay for school at ‥‥‥‥‥‥, you know?"

Silas looks at Kuro.

 Kuro shrugs her shoulders.

"Certainly not. I'm sure it costs a lot when it comes to school fees. It's true that our Gil is a genius, a super genius. I have no idea what he's doing, but I can tell you firsthand that he's doing some crazy stuff."

What the hell is she talking about?

 It's going to complicate things!
Of course, I assumed that you would be in such a situation. But don't worry.

「?」

"---- I'll pay for your school fees."

"Huh!"
